چکیده

A patient undergoing marrow grafting for acute lymphoblastic leukemia from his partially HLA-mismatched sister displayed a widely disseminated immunoblastic sarcoma at autopsy. The tumor was monoclonal by immunoglobulin light-chain staining. Blot hybridization analysis, using a cloned highly polymorphic locus in human DNA as a probe. showed the tumor to be of donor-cell origin. Cytogenetic analysis also demonstrated donor-cell origin. Blot hybridization analysis demonstrated Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) genomes in the tumor. By contrast, reexamination of

Infusion of cytotoxic T cells for the prevention and treatment of Epstein-Barr virus-induced lymphoma in allogeneic transplant recipients.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) causes potentially lethal immunoblastic lymphoma in up to 25% of children receiving bone marrow transplants from unrelated or HLA-mismatched donors. Because this complication appears to stem from a deficiency of EBV-specific cytotoxic T cells, we assessed the safety and efficacy of donor-derived polyclonal (CD4(+) and CD8(+)) T-cell lines as immunoprophylaxis and treatm...

Eradication of Epstein-Barr virus by allogeneic bone marrow transplantation: implications for sites of viral latency.

Wild-type strains of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) can be distinguished on the basis of variations in the molecular weight of virus-encoded, growth transformation-associated proteins. This approach was used to study the persistence of EBV in two seropositive recipients of allogeneic bone marrow transplants. The first patient received marrow from her EBV-seronegative brother, became EBV seronegative ...

Recurrence of chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection from donor cells after achieving complete response through allogeneic bone marrow transplantation.

We report the case of a 35-year-old woman with chronic active Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection (CAEBV). She underwent allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) from an unrelated male donor and achieved a complete response. However, her CAEBV relapsed one year after BMT. EBV-infected cells proliferated clonally and revealed a 46XY karyotype. In addition, the infecting EBV strain differed fr...

Successful treatment of immediate allogeneic myeloablative hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from a HLA-mismatched sibling donor for active systemic epstein–barr virus-positive T-cell lymphoproliferative disease of childhood following primary acute epstein–barr virus infection

A 22-year-old female was admitted for sustained high fever and diagnosed with systemic Epstein-Barr virus-positive T-cell lymphoproliferative disease. As her clinical course was so aggressive, she immediately underwent allogeneic myeloablative bone marrow transplantation from an HLA-mismatched sibling donor on hospital day 46. The patient has remained in complete remission for 3 years.
